Who would have known that wine would have their own national day all around the world? Yeah, you heard that right - 22 October 2021, Friday, all wine and spirits fans are given a free pass to drink!

Here is some background story:

It all began when the wine growers were attempting to equal the taste, flavour and texture of the burgundy wines. Fortunately, they failed due to the cold season which resulted in the wine sitting in the cellars to stop fermenting.

Apparently, the cold made it so that the sleeping yeast cells would only wake in Spring and ferment - causing carbon dioxide to release within the bottle. Most of the bottles in the cellar exploded but those that survived were sparkling wines - Champagne.

Have you never known about this global day? Well, none of that matters because here are 3 ways you can celebrate this year’s Champagne Day!

1. Experiment on Food to pair your Champagnes with these brands

Blanc de Blancs, made only with Chardonnay grapes. It generally goes well with lighter foods, such as seafood and vegetables.

Blanc de Noirs, made solely from red Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes, with a deeper golden color than the Blanc de Blancs. It makes a great pairing with full-flavored foods, such as meat and cheese.

Rosé. The color comes from the addition of Pinot Noir wine at the second fermentation, the point at which still wine becomes Champagne. This type is one of the best to have with dinner, according to Ed McCarthy, author of Champagne for Dummies.
