ABOUT MARTINEZ ALESANCO
Near the village of San Millán de La Cogolla (where the famous twin monastaries of Yuso and Suso are located), in the heart of Rioja Alta, Spain, are the prized vineyards owned by the Martínez Alesanco Family. The 80 hectares viticulture estate has remarkable vineyards thriving in a privileged plain that holds the exceptional soil that is ideal for excellent vine cultivation, perfecting their production of Tempranillo, Granacha, and many other native with experimental varieties. The terroirs with a lot of iron in the soil also ensures that the fruits produced are made into quality wines with terrific acidity and freshness.
At about 700 meters above sea level is the 'top vineyard' with well-drained soil of clay and lime, together with the ideal climatic environment of long sunshine/daytime period and sufficient cooling wind, ensuring the perfect ripening of the grapes while retaining the essential fruit acidity. There are even century old vines that survives and predates the phylloxera period that devasted 1/3 of the vineyards throughout Europe in the mid-1800s
