This is a family-run port wine producer based in Vila Nova da Gaia and the Douro Valley of Portugal. Descended from six generations of Douro producers, Johnny Graham founded his own Churchill's port winery in 1981 at just 29 years old. He dedicated himself to bring a unique style to be called his own, by creating a fresh vibe to the traditional world of port yet maintaining elegance, freshness and keeping as natural as possible with minimal intervention. Since then, the winery has produced a world-class roster of vintage ports, ruby and wood aged selections too, all of which, started from their beloved vineyard in Quinta da Gricha, truly reflect the Douro terroir and capturing the spirit of the region.
Considered a "steel girder", this port has a good tannin structure which binds and balances the fruit and ensures good ageing potential. Deep brick red colour. Seductive on the nose, with notes of fresh mint and menthol. On the palate, a combination of black nougat and green capers, with elegant grip and acidity.
Produced with old vines from the Cima Corgo sub-region in the Douro Valley, this 1997 Vintage combines the more mature power of Água Alta with the elegant aromatically “green tea” styles of Manuela and Fojo.
Delicious on its own or as a pairing with chocolate desserts or rich cheeses. Decant and serve at cellar temperature (12º-14ºC).
