Founded in 1997 when Kevin Mitchell purchased the picturesque Kilikanoon property nestled in the hamlet of Penwortham, the winery has evolved from a modest, inaugural vintage of four single vineyard wines into a Clare Valley institution.
Kilikanoon was thrust into the national spotlight when it won 6 of 7 trophies awarded at the 2002 Clare Valley Wine Show. Since then its signature shiraz “The Oracle” has twice been voted World’s Best Shiraz and in 2013 Kilikanoon was named Australian Winery of the Year by James Halliday. The influential international wine show Mundus Vini has named Kilikanoon “Best Australian Producer” a record 5 times, most recently in 2020.
Tasting Note:
A full-bodied red with dark red colour and youthful crimson highlights. Displaying aromas of black olives, ripened forest berries, fresh blackcurrants and raspberries, carried by hints of liquorice , cinnamon and clove. On the palate, it is rich and powerful, showcasing intense dark berries and bright red fruits upfront, layered with taste of dark chocolate and sweet spices. Fine, silky tannins with firm structure, ending with persistent, velvety finishing.
