The Crozes-Hermitage appellation is the largest Northern Rhone wine producing region. It extends over 11 communes of the Drôme on the left bank of the Rhône. Formerly planted with fruit crops, this region was designated local A.O.C. in 1937.
Maison Bouachon's "La Maurelle", reflects all the true characteristics of this appellation in the north of the Rhône Valley, especially with the vineyard that are grown on terraces of rolled pebbles formed throughout the ages by the Rhône's climatic and environmental conditioning, and also where the only red grape variety allowed for red wines is Syrah.
The wine has a color of beautiful garnet red color. On the nose, pronounce notes of ripe red fruits, cherries & redcurrants coupled with secondary notes of soft sweet spices & subtle toasted oak. On the palate, it is fruit driven, silky, offering a pleasant freshness. The supple tannins give this wine depth, structure with a graceful balance and a persistent finishing.
This wine will go perfectly with a hare stew, a coq au vin, and any cheese.
