Mitolo is a family-owned business that produces a range of wines from McLaren Vale, South Australia. The essence of Mitolo Wines can be traced back centuries through generations of agriculturists and viticulturalists. The winery was founded by Frank Mitolo, who migrated in the 1950s from Italy’s Abruzzo region to Australia, with a passion for viticulture and winemaking.
The winery has a reputation for premium, high quality wines. In 2000, it made its first Shiraz, and two years later its first Cabernet Sauvignon. Since that time, Mitolo has championed these two varieties with fruit from some of McLaren Vale’s finest vineyards. At the same time, the winery expanded to successfully growing Italian varieties such as Vermentino, Sangiovese, and Nero d’Avola, paying homage to the family roots.
Tasting Note:
Aromas of ripe strawberry, blackberry and plum sit atop subtleties of roasted almonds, vanilla bean and a hint of tobacco. The palate is medium bodied with soft, cocoa powder tannins, fruits of red currant, red plum, blackberry and strawberry coulis. Notes of black olive and dried herbs arise and bring savoury elements to a long and graceful finish.
Food Pairing:
Grilled/Roast beef, big beefy or mutton stew, BBQ meats, strong hard cheeses.
